DIGITISATION AND ANALOG PRESERVATION

Why we need digitation?

Digital libraries are viewed as systems providing users with coherent access to a large, organised repository of information and knowledge. The ability of the user to access, reorganise, and utilise this repository is enriched by the capabilities of digital technology. Digitisation has become important in worldwide efforts to preserve, manage, and provide access to informations. However, digitisation efforts require significant financial investments in infrastructure and technology as well as in human resources for project management.

Eventually we face the problem with searching, viewing and storage of paper informations over a long duration. Certainly at a given point we all required to make the information digitised to save lot of time for searching and to get the decisions more precisly and quickly.

The optical condition of original drawings can be deteriorates due to humidity, temperature, ligh and chemical fuems. The condition of drawings can be spotted, low contrast, smudged text, high density, high smudged, faded, fragile, torn, fold etc. The various conditions of drawings are provided below (click on the image to view larger picture):-

Various optical conditions of drawings

BBSCIMA is specilised in the digitisation process and preservation of analog informations with almost 17 years of work exprience with diffrent customers in various fields. We ensure recovery of total information by converting the image on to a photofilm through RADS technolodgy.

How we do it?

Harvestar Camera
Harvester Camera

In the first preocess, after receving all the Original drawings from customer, we carefully examined them and arrange them in an order. Thereafter all the drawings will be given an identification number, which will be used throught the digitisation process and futher identification also.

The drawings are process through a special flow camera known as Harvester Camera. This camera reduce the image by 4.45 times on to a photo film.

Photo Negative
Photo Negative Film

This photo film have shelf life of 100 to 300 years. Photo films will be generated from Original Drawings as well as final cleaned image too.

After generation of photo film, same wil be scanned though a flat bed scanner, which will generate the digitised image of Original drawing of same size.

The resulting digitised image will be throughlly cleaned for un-wanted noise. The cleaned image will be re-checked with original for integrity of informations. If any modification required, the same will be carried out. Some of samples for cleaned digital images are shown below. Click on the image to view larger images.

Conditions of Drawings after completion of cleaning process

What we provide after completion of Digitisation Process?

The following items/information will be provided to you after completion of digitisation process:-

  • The Original drawings inside a pouch with its work order no., no. of images and other informations on bottom and side cover.
  • Photo Films of original drawings with a unique identification numbers inside a plastic folder which further kept int a ring binder.
  • New cleaned paper print in respect of original drawings inside a pouch with all the details.
  • Photo Film of final paper print inside a plastic folder and ring binder.
  • A CD/DVD containg the Search Software along with all the digitised.

What are the benefits?

The advantages of having photo films are as follows:-

  • The photo film is an excellent archival media with an expected life of 100-300 years.
  • A transparent media is better for scanning from optics point of view.
  • The scanning is done on a flat bed scanner thus increasing the accuracy.
  • As the reduction is 4.45 times, the image from the negative can be viewed through an oridnary overhead projector.
  • The camera catches the finest lines and all details.
  • The photo film are packed in a special paper envelop and then in plastic folder, which can be put into ring binders.
  • The photo film is Orthochromatic, high contrast, rapid access film with gevar Polyester Base.
  • This film has the ability to capture 256 shades of gray scale.

The advantages of having digitised images are as follows:-

  • The digitised images are easy to search and view.
  • It helps in quick decision making.
  • It helps in quick comparison between two or more images.
  • Digitised images are provided along-with search software, thus it can be installed in any number of machines.
  • These images are of small size, so it does not take much space in Computer Hard Disk.
  • It keeps away from Analog documents, thus helps in its preservation.
